Education is my family business.
My grandpa became a science teacher after he returned from WWII. My dad was my high school principal, and my mom taught kindergarten for 32 years. My older sister teaches eighth-grade biology. (My little sister went rogue and became a nurse.)
Before moving to Austin, I spent nearly a decade with the Montana Migrant Education program. Since then, I've taught ESL and theater at a small charter academy, supported first generation college graduates with Breakthrough Central Texas, and served diverse students in AISD's Humanities magnet program. I am now honored to be the principal of Austin ISD's only public Montessori school. It is a joy to provide an authentic Montessori experience for all students and to lead a campus and community toward best practices for instruction, inclusion of students with disabilities, biliteracy/bilingualism, and caregiver involvement. I promote a school vision that celebrates diversity, says yes to the big dreams of our staff, and provides equitable outcomes for all students. I'm proud to continue my family business.
I have been an educator for 15 years. I’m married to an educator and have 3 kids ages 6, 7, and 10. My family is my inspiration to be an educational leader providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for all children.
I started my educational career as an Elementary Bilingual Teacher in Austin ISD. After my first child was born I taught Elementary and Middle School in a Virtual Public School in Texas. I returned to AISD as an Multilingual Instructional Coach and later had the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal at the school where I first started my teaching career.
Having grown up in Brazil, my husband being from Mexico, and my children from the United States, at home we value our languages and cultural diversity. As an educational leader I also embrace cultural diversity and language in our community and school.
Now as the Assistant Principal at Winn Montessori, I’m honored to assist Bridget in continuing promoting our school vision that celebrates diversity at our campus and community ensuring equitable learning for all students regardless of ability, ethnicity, language, and social background.
